Eight arrested in Ghana for allegedly assaulting 21-year-old during Yahoo initiation
Police in Ghana have arrested eight suspects for allegedly assaulting a 21-year-old man during his initiation into an internet fraud operation.
According to PUNCH, the Bono Regional Police Command disclosed that the incident occurred in Kotokrom, Sunyani West Municipality, on October 4, 2026.
Officers responding to a distress call reportedly found the victim, Godstime Umukoro, with multiple injuries and arrested the suspects.
“During interrogation, the suspects stated that they subjected the victim to severe beating as part of his initiation into the Internet fraud business, a process they claimed they had also undergone,” police said.
Investigators identified Nwachukwu King Augustine as the alleged leader who brought the suspects to Ghana.
Police further alleged that the group impersonated foreign military personnel stationed in Yemen to deceive victims online and obtain money.
Authorities commended residents for reporting the incident and pledged continued efforts against criminal activities across the region.
