Alleged Tinubu coup plotters’ lawyers accuse DIA of eavesdropping on private discussions
Lawyers representing suspects accused of plotting a coup against President Bola Tinubu have accused the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) of attempting to monitor confidential discussions with their detained clients.
According to SaharaReporters, the lawyers visited the agency on Monday but allegedly discovered that DIA personnel had been assigned to listen to their conversations.
The legal team, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria Olalekan Ojo, rejected the arrangement and refused to proceed with the interviews.
One lawyer said, “This nauseating arrangement was contested, and all the counsel present agreed that we would not proceed with the interview until the companions are removed.”
The lawyers reportedly raised their concerns with the DIA coordinator, who insisted that agency officials must remain present.
Ojo subsequently advised the legal representatives to formally report the incident to the court.
The suspects are facing proceedings connected to an alleged plot to overthrow Tinubu’s administration.
The allegations remain unverified, and the DIA’s response was not included in the report.
