ARISE News bars Anthony Kila from its programmes over fake professorship
ARISE News has permanently barred political analyst Anthony Kila from appearing across its television channel and platforms due to unresolved questions regarding his academic credentials, according to a report by Premium Times.
The network issued a disclaimer statement on Tuesday announcing it would no longer feature Kila, following an investigative series by Premium Times that questioned his professorial title and revealed discrepancies across his degrees. ARISE News revealed that it contacted Kila on October 3 to present the findings. Though he requested additional time, he failed to respond 10 days later as “the allegations have gotten worse.”
“In the circumstances, we find that his contributions to The ARISE News Channel is no longer tenable,” the network stated, adding it was unaware of the allegations when hiring him as a freelance analyst.
The fallout extends beyond broadcasting. Michael and Cecilia Ibru University asked Kila to step aside as Pro-Chancellor, while the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission launched a formal investigation.
