Ex-SGF Babachir Lawal claims Buhari questioned Osinbajo’s appointment of Yoruba church members
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has alleged that former President Muhammadu Buhari expressed dissatisfaction with appointments made by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
According to SaharaReporters, Lawal made the allegations during an interview with Symfoni TV, claiming Buhari questioned Osinbajo’s alleged preference for Yoruba associates and church members.
Lawal recalled presenting Buhari with a memorandum containing approximately 28 names proposed by Osinbajo for his office.
He said Buhari examined the list and remarked, “Bidi, these are all Yorubas.”
Despite his reservations, Buhari reportedly approved the appointments following Lawal’s intervention.
Lawal further alleged that Osinbajo reversed appointments previously approved by Buhari while the president was receiving medical treatment.
“Buhari is aware that most of the appointments that Osinbajo would do were people from his church,” Lawal said. “Buhari was aware of this and he was not happy.”
He claimed Buhari feared Osinbajo might adopt a similar appointment pattern to President Bola Tinubu if elected president.
Osinbajo’s response to the allegations was not reported.
