Top analyst calls Tesla’s Roadster tech flex with ‘no commercial value’…
Tesla investor and analyst Gene Munster has described Elon Musk’s long-awaited Tesla Roadster as an engineering spectacle with little commercial value, despite its advanced technology and unusual capabilities.
According to Benzinga, Munster, managing partner at Deepwater Asset Management, made the assessment following the unveiling of the redesigned electric sports car, developed with technology from Musk’s SpaceX.
“It was an engineering flex with no commercial value beyond embarrassing traditional car makers,” Munster wrote on X.
The vehicle reportedly features rocket-style thrusters, enabling aerial manoeuvres, alongside a claimed acceleration from zero to 60 miles per hour in under one second.
Munster also suggested the unveiling highlighted Musk’s interest in bringing Tesla and SpaceX closer together, amid growing speculation about a potential merger.
Tesla says production of the long-delayed Roadster will begin in 2028, years after its original delivery target.
Despite questions about its commercial prospects, the vehicle could serve as a showcase for Tesla’s engineering capabilities.
