Man feared drowned while trying to rescue another in Kwara river
Two men have been reported missing after jumping into the Asa River in Ilorin, Kwara State, following an altercation on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. at Asa Bridge along Emir’s Road.
According to Daily Trust, one of the men, identified as Abubakar, allegedly jumped into the river in an apparent suicide attempt after a disagreement during which another person sustained injuries.
A second man, Nasiru, 42, reportedly entered the river while attempting to rescue Abubakar but was subsequently reported to have drowned.
The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed that rescue personnel were immediately deployed following a distress call.
Its spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said several hours of searching had yielded no results.
