Mamdani: El-Sayed victory “critically important” to New York City

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) on Tuesday backed Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, saying a victory would signal openness to a new political future, The Hill reported. Asked at a press conference about supporting Democrats in the midterms, Mamdani said: “I think that his victory and the victory of Democrats across this country is of critical importance to our city because what it also indicates is a willingness to chart a new course in Washington that has working people at the heart of it.”

He cited parallels with El-Sayed’s push against super PAC spending and advocacy for “Medicare for all” and lower living costs. “Those are concerns that ring true for Michiganders. They’re also concerns that ring true for New Yorkers,” Mamdani said, adding that his focus remains on the five boroughs.
