Democrats target Elon Musk for congressional investigations if they win midterms

Billionaire Elon Musk could face a series of congressional investigations if Democrats regain control of the US House of Representatives in next month’s midterm elections, with lawmakers raising concerns about his government role, business interests and political influence.

According to POLITICO, Musk has emerged as a major target for Democratic lawmakers planning investigations into President Donald Trump’s administration and wealthy individuals they believe wield excessive political influence.

Democrats are particularly interested in Musk’s leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which oversaw sweeping federal spending cuts and agency restructuring.

Representative Greg Casar said: “Our committees need to be doing oversight both into the Trump administration, but I think even more importantly or equally importantly into the corporations and ultra-rich people who have tried to corrupt our government.”

Lawmakers are also examining potential conflicts of interest involving Musk’s companies, federal contracts and his political donations to Republican candidates.

The proposed investigations could cover DOGE’s access to government data, cuts to foreign aid and Musk’s influence on US support for Ukraine.

However, Democrats must win control of the House before they can pursue their plans through committee leadership.
