My girlfriends abandoned me after I stole ₦700,000 to buy them phones — Convict
A 25-year-old convict in Adamawa State, Suleiman Idi, has expressed regret after his two girlfriends allegedly abandoned him following his imprisonment for stealing ₦700,000 to buy them mobile phones.
According to DAILY POST, Idi, from Ngurore in Yola South Local Government Area, narrated his experience while appearing before the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee.
He disclosed that he stole the money to purchase two phones for his girlfriends, identified as Aisha and Asabe.
However, neither woman reportedly visited him or offered support following his imprisonment.
Idi was arrested in June 2026 and sentenced to six years by the Ngurore Area Court.
He began serving his sentence at Yolde Pate Correctional Centre on June 22.
However, on Friday, October 23, the committee, chaired by Chief Judge Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, reduced his sentence from six years to two.
The convict expressed remorse over his actions, lamenting that his efforts to please his girlfriends ultimately cost him his freedom.
