Nigerians demand accounting of N10 billion Ebola fund from Femi Gbajabiamila
Public outrage is mounting as citizens demand that Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, account for the ₦10 billion emergency fund approved for Ebola response.
The backlash, as reported by Peoples Gazette, intensified following Health Minister Ali Pate’s confirmation that the index Ebola patient—a Ugandan-born Swiss national—and her husband were evacuated to Switzerland. After the departure, the World Health Organization declared Nigeria free of active cases, sparking criticism online over the multi-billion naira allocation to the presidential task force led by Gbajabiamila.
Social media users accused officials of using the health scare to divert public resources. One user, @climaxx_empire, claimed: “We know Ebola was never back. It was all a game to loot a whopping N10 billion from public funds. Imagine using a health scare to enrich yourselves. Devilish politicians.”
Addressing the controversy, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga shared a statement clarifying that “the N10 billion the president approved for the Ebola emergency in June remains untouched, while the NCDC, FAAN, and other surveillance agencies have spent other available resources.”
