Investigator tells court Enugu PDP candidate Nnaji’s degree, NYSC certificates are forged
An investigator with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) told a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday that the degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates used by Enugu Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate Uche Nnaji were forged, the Peoples Gazette reported.
Yakubu Ibrahim, a police superintendent and the prosecution’s first witness, said the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the NYSC denied issuing the certificates Nnaji submitted to the National Assembly in 2023 for his ministerial clearance. He said university records showed Nnaji was admitted but did not graduate. “The NYSC said the certificate was not issued by it, which was why we didn’t inquire where he served,” he told the court.
Nnaji’s lawyer, Wole Olanipekun, cross-examined the witness, who said he did not know the source of the certificates. He did not object to admitting the university documents but reserved his objection until later. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the matter until November 3.
