2027: Repay Tinubu for supporting Atiku, Buhari in the past — Shettima tells northerners
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged northern Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying the region should repay him for supporting northern presidential candidates in previous elections.
According to Leadership, Shettima made the appeal on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
He recalled how Tinubu supported former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar after his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2007 presidential election.
Shettima also highlighted Tinubu’s backing of Nuhu Ribadu in 2011 and former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections.
“This explains why we have all stood with him. To declare why Arewa support for you. This is a mark of honour and our faith in a man of honour,” he said.
The vice-president argued that Tinubu’s political alliances demonstrated his longstanding commitment to northern Nigeria.
He urged voters to consider the president’s political contributions and his administration’s performance when voting in 2027.
Shettima also called for Governor Uba Sani’s re-election, highlighting educational initiatives, infrastructure projects and economic reforms undertaken by the APC administration in Kaduna State.
