Tinubu blames opposition for Nigeria’s hardship after over a decade of APC power
President Bola Tinubu has blamed opposition politicians for Nigeria’s hunger and poverty challenges, despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) governing the country since 2015.
Speaking at his 2027 re-election campaign launch in Kaduna on Saturday, Tinubu accused his political opponents of creating economic hardship.
According to Peoples Gazette, the president said:
“I hear my opponent talk about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created poverty; they created hunger and poverty,”
Tinubu insisted that his administration and APC governors were working to address the situation.
“We are trying to eradicate it (poverty and hunger). We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I’m proud of them. I promise a second term of prosperity,” he said.
The remarks come amid persistent concerns over inflation, rising food prices and worsening living conditions.
The APC has controlled the federal government for more than 11 years, beginning with Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency in 2015.
International financial institutions have also highlighted Nigeria’s persistent poverty and food insecurity challenges.
