Andriy Lunin makes El Clásico history in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona
Andriy Lunin made El Clásico history as Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou, becoming the first goalkeeper to win four of his first five matches in the fixture, as reported by Madrid Universal.
Lunin stepped in for Thibaut Courtois, who was sidelined with the flu, and made a critical save to deny Gerard Martín before Kylian Mbappé sealed the win.
Speaking post-match, Jose Mourinho dedicated the triumph to Barcelona fans who disrupted his pre-match sleep: ”I dedicate this win to the Barca fans that did not let me take my nap in the hotel today. They came to the hotel and they kept singing all day, so I couldn’t take my nap. Well, I didn’t nap, but I did beat their team. A big hug to them.”
Praising Lunin’s composure, Mourinho added: ”I’ve only said to him, ‘You train to play, not to sit on the bench; go and play.’ And he’s put in a performance with great composure and poise.”
