Harry Maguire insists Man United squad is fully behind under-fire boss Michael Carrick
Harry Maguire has insisted the Manchester United dressing room remains fully behind head coach Michael Carrick following a dismal 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
The defeat leaves United with just two wins from 12 matches across all competitions this season, placing Carrick’s future in serious jeopardy.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Maguire addressed the squad’s struggles: ”There’s a lack of confidence at the moment. The results, the performances, we have to look at ourselves and find something within ourselves to bring more to the team. That’s every player that I’m talking about.”
“When things aren’t going your way you have to do the basics well and conceding set plays, a simple set play is just nowhere near good enough. It’s an individual thing – we have to stick together as a team. So early on in the season – we can still have a good season but something has got to change quick. It’s been disappointing, that has to change.”
“When you play for this club you know you’re two or three games away from that happening. You have to find something within yourself to help the club, help the team and get out of this. We will start winning football matches but we have to do it quickly.”
Reaffirming the players’ support for Carrick, Maguire added: “We’re fully behind Michael [Carrick], coming into the team last season he turned things around and got Champions League football this season. As individuals, we’re not playing well enough.”
