Barcelona to appeal €602 RFEF fine following Atletico complaint over Julian Alvarez
Barcelona have decided to appeal a €602 fine imposed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following Atletico Madrid’s complaint over their approach for striker Julian Alvarez.
According to Barca Universal, citing Spanish newspaper MARCA, the Catalan club maintains that it followed the correct procedures when expressing interest in the Argentine international during the summer transfer window.
Atletico reportedly accused Barcelona of contacting Alvarez without first notifying his club, prompting the RFEF to investigate the matter. The federation subsequently imposed the penalty under Article 133 of its disciplinary regulations, which covers failures to comply with regulatory obligations.
Barcelona, however, dispute the allegations, insisting they formally communicated their interest to Atletico and submitted a proposal but received no response. Despite the relatively small financial penalty, Barcelona are determined to challenge the decision, arguing that accepting it could imply an admission of wrongdoing.
The dispute falls under the RFEF’s jurisdiction because it concerns dealings between two Spanish clubs. Barcelona’s appeal will seek to overturn the sanction, with the club maintaining that its conduct during negotiations complied with the applicable regulations.
