UK increases student visa financial requirement to £14,130 from November 30
The United Kingdom has announced increased financial requirements for international students, including Nigerians, applying for study visas from November 30, 2026.
According to , students studying in London must demonstrate access to £1,570 monthly, up from £1,529, bringing the nine-month requirement to £14,130.
Students outside London will need £1,203 monthly, compared with £1,171, raising their nine-month requirement to £10,827.
The revised amounts cover living expenses only, excluding tuition fees, visa application charges and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Applicants must generally demonstrate that the required funds have been available for 28 consecutive days before applying.
The changes reflect rising living costs and are expected to increase financial pressure on prospective international students.
UK government documents confirm that the adjustment aligns student maintenance requirements with support available to domestic students. GOV.UK+1
