Wayne Rooney launches brutal Man United attack, says squad is ‘living in cuckoo land’

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has launched a scathing attack on the club’s players, questioning their quality and commitment amid an eight-game winless run.

According to Sports Illustrated, Rooney criticised the squad following recent disappointing performances, insisting the players had failed manager Michael Carrick. “The players haven’t got a leg to stand on,” he told Stick to United.

The former England captain also questioned United’s attacking options, warning against expectations that the current squad could compete at the highest level.

“You are deluded if they think the front three are good enough. They wanted Premier League players, they have brought lads from Wolves and Brentford, who have done well, but for signings to take this Manchester United team to the next level, you are living in cuckoo land if you think they are going to achieve that.”

Rooney also described United as a mid-table side and called for a major squad overhaul, while expressing sympathy for Carrick, whom he believes has been let down by his players. United are preparing for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Chelsea.
