Michael Carrick backs Martínez despite United defender’s outburst and red card
Michael Carrick has insisted that Lisandro Martínez’s commitment is not in question despite the defender’s recent criticism of Manchester United’s hierarchy and his sending-off against Chelsea.
Martínez was fined for comments directed at sporting director Jason Wilcox before receiving a red card in Saturday’s defeat at Stamford Bridge.
However, Carrick expects the Argentine to retain his place against Roma in Tuesday’s Champions League encounter. “I’ve got no concerns about commitment at all,” the United manager said.
According to The Irish Times, United are desperate for a positive result after going nine matches without victory, their worst run in 38 years. Martínez will miss Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Aston Villa through suspension.
