Fraud-convicted Osun monarch sues Adeleke over plan to replace him
The dethroned Apetumodu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, Oba Joseph Oloyede, has sued Governor Ademola Adeleke, seeking to stop the appointment of a replacement following his deposition.
Oloyede, who was convicted in the United States over fraud-related offences, filed the suit before an Osun State High Court in Ile-Ife, alleging that he was removed without being formally notified of any wrongdoing.
According to The PUNCH, the monarch is seeking an interlocutory injunction restraining Adeleke and other officials from filling the traditional stool pending the determination of the substantive suit.
In his application, Oloyede alleged that his deposition was announced through an instrument signed by the governor on May 7, 2026, without prior notice.
The hearing was stalled on Monday after the court was informed that some defendants had not received hearing notices.
Justice Dapo Adeniji subsequently adjourned the case until January 21, 2027, and ordered that fresh hearing notices be served on the defendants.
The state government had earlier approved Oloyede’s removal following his conviction in the US on tax fraud and money laundering charges.
