Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel in Intensive Care after severe on-field collision
CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has been admitted to intensive care following a horrific stoppage-time collision during Monday’s Spanish Segunda División match against FC Andorra, according to a report by GiveMeSport.
The 30-year-old lost consciousness after an appalling challenge by Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who received a straight red card before the match was officially abandoned.
Tenerife’s initial statement confirmed De Miguel had been “admitted to the ICU at the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria, stable despite the severity of his condition.”
Emergency responders reportedly resuscitated De Miguel after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance. In a distressing update on Tuesday morning, Tenerife confirmed: “Jesus de Miguel’s medical condition has worsened neurologically. More information in the coming hours.”
Opponents FC Andorra expressed solidarity online, posting: “From FC Andorra, we want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesús de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today’s match.”
