North Korea rejects ties to $6.3bn Binance heist, says US claim is ‘grave political provocation’
North Korea has denied involvement in the $6.3 billion hack of Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
Kim Yo-jong, sister of leader Kim Jong-un, described the allegations on Tuesday as “absurd rhetoric” and a “grave political provocation”, the The Cable reported.
“The US has made a trite provocation of linking it with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea again,” said Kim, director of the country’s General Affairs Department.
“It is a grave political provocation against the DPRK that the US misleads the international public opinion as if all the cyber crimes in different parts of the world are our deeds.”
“It is the consistent policy stand of the DPRK government to resolutely oppose all sorts of malicious acts in cyberspace,” she added.
On Sunday, the FBI blamed the October 29 theft, described as the largest crypto hack ever, on North Korean state-backed hackers known as TraderTraitor, also called the Lazarus Group.
Binance says it has replaced 95 percent of affected funds.
