Police order retirement of six commissioners over age limit

Share:

The Nigeria Police Force Headquarters has directed six Commissioners of Police to submit their retirement notices after reaching the statutory retirement age of 60, Vanguard reports.

The directive followed the officers’ alleged refusal to retire, with some reportedly lobbying for promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

A police signal titled “Discharge and Retirement” was copied to the Police Service Commission and several police formations, including the Police Academy (POLAC) and the Niger State Police Command.

It read: “INGENPOL warns you and directs under-listed Commissioners of Police to submit individual notices of retirement, having attained mandatory statutory retirement age of 60 years.”

The officers named are Adamu Elleman, Abdullateef Adamu, Titilayo Lasisi, Markus Ishaku Basiran and Sylvester Oniye Ozoefuna. The sixth officer was not named in the signal.

Their listed dates of birth range from January 5, 1958, to September 2, 1966.

The signal also referenced a letter to the Police Service Commission with reference number PSC/2116/111/26.
