Police in Cross River State have arrested 27-year-old Victor Edet Yellow Duke following an attack on Peter Obi’s convoy in Calabar on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during which suspected hoodlums armed with machetes and sticks damaged vehicle windshields near Watt Market Roundabout, prompting officers to intervene and restore order, while Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue ordered further investigations to identify other suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man following an attack on the convoy of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), in Calabar.

According to Premium Times, the incident occurred on Wednesday around Watt Market Roundabout as Obi’s convoy returned from the Obong of Calabar’s palace.

Police spokesperson ASP Sunday Eitokpah identified the suspect as Victor Edet Yellow Duke.

He said suspected hoodlums armed with machetes and sticks attacked the convoy, damaging several vehicle windshields.

Officers reportedly intervened, dispersing the attackers and arresting one suspect.

The suspect was transferred to police headquarters for further investigation.

Cross River Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue ordered an investigation to identify other perpetrators.

“The Command emphasises that the arrest of a suspect does not amount to a determination of guilt, as the suspect remains entitled to the presumption of innocence pending the conclusion of investigation and any subsequent judicial proceedings,” police stated.

The command confirmed that normalcy had returned.
