ADC heads to Appeal Court over judgment sacking Mark-led leadership
The ADC is fighting to overturn the judgment that removed David Mark’s leadership and wants INEC to hold off until the appeal is decided.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appealed the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, that removed the David Mark-led National Working Committee, Punch reports.
The party said in a statement on Friday by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of its Presidential Campaign Council, that it had filed an application for a stay of execution pending the appeal. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was notified on November 6.
“The Commission must respect the judicial process and allow the appellate court to hear the case,” the party said. It urged INEC not to take any action capable of prejudicing the appeal.
Justice Peter Lifu delivered the judgment on Thursday, nullifying Mark’s leadership and the presidential primary that produced Atiku Abubakar as the party’s 2027 candidate. He ruled in favour of Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former Deputy National Chairman, who challenged Mark’s emergence.
The ADC leadership loyal to Mark has rejected the ruling. Shaibu said, “Our campaigns continue without interruption.”
