ADC unveils venue for Atiku’s presidential campaign flag-off after intimidation, attack claims
The ADC has announced that its presidential campaign will be flagged off at its secretariat on Ilorin Road, Sokoto, on Wednesday, after weeks of allegations of intimidation and suppression, with Atiku expected at 9am.
The African Democratic Congress has unveiled the venue for the flag-off of its presidential campaign, Daily Trust reports.
Sen. Ibrahim Lamido, the party’s Presidential Campaign Coordinator in Sokoto State, said the event will hold on Wednesday at the ADC secretariat, No. 1 Ilorin Road, Sokoto. Atiku Abubakar is expected to arrive at Sultan Abubakar III International Airport by 9am, and supporters were invited to receive him before proceeding to the venue.
The party had earlier declined to disclose the venue over allegations of intimidation and suppression. Its Sokoto governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, reportedly escaped unhurt when gunmen opened fire on his convoy near the airport on Friday night. The APC denied responsibility, but three days later an ADC campaign office was sealed. The party also alleged the state government denied it a suitable venue.
On Tuesday night, Atiku alleged that the APC and DSS were plotting to scuttle the campaign, which the DSS denied.
Lamido urged party executives across the 23 local government areas, women and youth groups and support organisations to mobilise for the event.
