Amaechi: I’ll dump Atiku, back Tinubu if petrol drops to N600
Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has said he would withdraw as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol falls to N600 per litre.
According to Sahara Reporters, Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, made the statement during a Channels Television interview on Friday. The ADC ticket lists Atiku and Amaechi as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
“If fuel comes down to 600 tomorrow, I will campaign for President Tinubu,” Amaechi said.
He said Nigerians were struggling with rising transportation, accommodation, healthcare and other living costs, arguing that salary increases were being eroded by expenses and taxes.
“Transport alone takes N65,000,” he said, referring to a worker earning N70,000 monthly.
Amaechi also criticised the government’s economic reforms, while saying he did not personally hate Tinubu.
“Nobody hates Tinubu,” he said. “I love Tinubu. He knows.”
He also rejected corruption allegations against him, saying, “Exactly,” when asked whether he was corrupt.
