Amnesty International displays “end genocide” banner at Austria vs. Israel UNL match

Amnesty International Austria staged a protest during the UEFA Nations League match between Austria and Israel in Linz on Thursday, displaying a prominent banner reading “END GENOCIDE” inside the stadium.​ The human rights organization used the international fixture to direct global public attention toward the ongoing humanitarian crisis and conflict in the Gaza Strip.

According to Amnesty International, campaigner Alexander Weihrauch criticized governments and sporting authorities for failing to act against human rights violations and international law breaches in Palestinian territories.​

Amnesty renewed its call on UEFA and FIFA to suspend the Israel Football Association (IFA) over the participation of clubs based in illegal settlements within the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The group also urged European governments, including Austria, to halt settlement-related trade.
