Andoni Iraola defends Florian Wirtz after Jamie Carragher’s brutal Liverpool criticism

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has defended Florian Wirtz after Jamie Carragher criticised the £116 million signing following the Reds’ 1-0 win over Bournemouth. According to GOAL, Wirtz struggled during the opening half at the Vitality Stadium and was substituted in the 73rd minute, prompting Carragher to question his place in the team.

However, Iraola praised the Germany international’s second-half contribution, particularly his movement in the build-up to Alexander Isak’s winning goal. “He started the game slowly, I agree,” Iraola told Sky Sports, before explaining that Wirtz found better positions after the break and helped Liverpool improve. Carragher had argued that Wirtz should be dropped against Manchester City.
