Aproko doctor reveals danger of rinsing mouth with borehole water

Nigerian doctor and health educator, Chukwuma Okoro, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, has warned against using untreated borehole water to rinse the mouth, citing the risk of bacterial contamination.

In a video shared on X, he said contaminated water could contain Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a major cause of peptic ulcers. He advised people unsure of their water source to boil, properly filter or chemically disinfect it before use.

According to The Punch, Aproko Doctor also identified frequent use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including ibuprofen and diclofenac, as factors associated with ulcers, while noting that smoking and alcohol consumption could also pose risks.

He urged people experiencing persistent stomach pain to seek medical attention. He also warned that black or tarry stool could indicate gastrointestinal bleeding and should receive prompt medical attention.

He said proper diagnosis of ulcers and H. pylori infection should be handled by medical professionals.
