Arsenal begin consultation over 60 job cuts after record financial results
Arsenal are planning to make 60 staff positions redundant despite winning the Premier League title last season and recording a club-record £691 million in revenue for the 2024-25 financial year. According to The Athletic, journalists Dan Sheldon and James McNicholas reported on Wednesday that the proposed cuts would affect several departments, although consultations are ongoing and the final decision could change.
The club’s coaching staff, men’s and women’s performance teams, academy, community operation, Arsenal Foundation and security personnel are among those expected to be unaffected. Arsenal reported an overall loss of £1.4 million for 2024-25, with commercial revenue rising by £45 million to £263.2 million.
The planned redundancies follow the club’s previous job cuts in August 2020, when 55 positions were made redundant during the Covid-19 pandemic, prompting criticism from supporters. The latest development also comes days after manager Mikel Arteta committed his future to Arsenal until 2030, following the club’s first league title in 22 years.
