Atiku, Obi absent as opposition begins discussions on unified 2027 candidate

Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were absent Monday as six opposition parties opened talks in Abuja on fielding a single 2027 presidential candidate against the APC, according to a Punch Newspapers report.

Convened by the G-100 group, the summit produced a communiqué establishing coalition committees and working groups to develop a roadmap for a common candidate within four weeks.

Atiku’s aide, Phrank Shaibu, said his absence was “unavoidable,” not a boycott, while a source said Obi was weighing his alliance with Rabiu Kwankwaso. Convener Salihu Lukman warned that unity would require some contenders to accept disappointment.
