Atiku vows full subsidy restoration, disowns aide’s ‘temporary’ claim

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has promised to fully restore fuel subsidy if elected in 2027, dismissing as inaccurate claims by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, that the restoration would be temporary, Peoples Gazette reports.

In a statement by spokesperson Phrank Shuaibu, Atiku said he proposes a targeted, capped, transparently budgeted, and independently audited subsidy supporting domestic refining, with no arbitrary withdrawal date.

He blamed Tinubu’s policies for Nigeria’s high cost of living, framing the 2027 contest as “Expensive Nigeria versus Affordable Nigeria.”
