Atletico Madrid beat 10-nan Real Madrid to cut Barcelona gap in La Liga
Atletico Madrid defeated 10-man Real Madrid 2-1 in a tense La Liga derby on Sunday, dealing Jose Mourinho’s side a second defeat of the season and leaving them six points behind leaders Barcelona.
According to France 24, the decisive moment came early in the second half when Dean Huijsen was sent off after pulling down Giuliano Simeone inside the penalty area. Alejandro Grimaldo converted the resulting spot-kick before Jonathan David doubled Atletico’s advantage in the 59th minute with his third goal in three games.
Antonio Rudiger headed Real Madrid back into contention late on, but Atletico held firm to secure the derby victory. Mourinho criticised two first-half challenges, arguing they should also have resulted in red cards. The result lifts Atletico into second place, five points behind Barcelona and one ahead of Real Madrid.
