Bayern Munich stunned by Viking FK as late header denies Kompany’s side victory
Bayern Munich surrendered a second-half lead to draw 3-3 with Norwegian side Viking FK in a dramatic UEFA Champions League league-phase encounter on Tuesday. According to Bavarian Football Works, Vincent Kompany’s side recovered from a disappointing first half before conceding a late equaliser.
Viking took the lead just over a minute into the match when Gianni Stensness headed home Zlatko Tripić’s corner. Peter Christiansen doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 38th minute after capitalising on a defensive lapse. Harry Kane reduced the deficit from the penalty spot in the 54th minute before heading home Joshua Kimmich’s cross six minutes later to restore parity.
Konrad Laimer then set up Luis Díaz for Bayern’s third goal in the 71st minute, completing an impressive turnaround. However, Michael Olise’s dismissal for throwing the ball at Tripić, striking him in the face, left Bayern with 10 men. Viking capitalised in the final minute of regulation time, with Herman Johan Haugen heading home Tripić’s cross to secure a memorable draw and deny Bayern victory.
