Carrick’s crisis deepens as 10-man Devils fall to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Michael Carrick’s troubles intensified as ten-man Manchester United suffered a 2-0 Premier League defeat at Chelsea, according to a match report from the Daily Star.
Despite an encouraging first-half display at Stamford Bridge, United failed to capitalise on chances from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.
The hosts broke the deadlock early in the second half when Morgan Rogers picked up the ball following a turnover and carried it past United’s central defenders before chipping goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United’s situation worsened shortly after when Lisandro Martinez committed a foul inside the penalty area on Wesley Fofana, earning a second yellow card and giving away a spot-kick.
Cole Palmer converted the resulting penalty to double Chelsea’s advantage and secure the victory. The result leaves United winless in nine matches across all competitions, heightening scrutiny surrounding Carrick’s position as manager.
