Chelsea 0-2 Spurs player ratings: Penders blunder and Palmer red gift Spurs rare Stamford Bridge win
Tottenham Hotspur secured a memorable 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, capitalising on a costly mistake from goalkeeper Mike Penders before Mathys Tel produced a superb late goal.
Penders punched a corner into his own net, while Cole Palmer was dismissed following two separate disciplinary incidents.
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo impressed despite the defeat, but Spurs claimed only their second victory in 42 visits to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea player ratings
Mike Penders: 4/10 – The goalkeeper endured a difficult first Premier League start, turning a corner into his own net with a badly judged punch. Tel subsequently beat him at his near post.
Josh Acheampong: 5/10 – The young defender delivered a dependable display, dealing comfortably with much of Tottenham’s attacking threat and demonstrating growing confidence in Chelsea’s defensive line.
Maxence Lacroix: 5/10 – The France international made several timely challenges and clearances, helping Chelsea withstand periods of pressure from the visitors.
Levi Colwill: 5/10 – Colwill looked physically strong and composed alongside his defensive partners, contributing to a generally solid backline performance despite the disappointing result.
Pedro Neto: 6/10 – One of Chelsea’s liveliest performers, Neto worked tirelessly defensively, recovered possession in dangerous areas and threatened going forward, forcing a save with a second-half effort.
Moises Caicedo: 7/10 – Caicedo was Chelsea’s standout midfielder, repeatedly winning possession and disrupting Tottenham’s attacks. His energetic duel with James Maddison was particularly influential before the Spurs playmaker’s withdrawal.
Jordan Henderson: 5/10 – Henderson performed his midfield duties competently but missed an opportunity to make more of Chelsea’s promising first-half opening in the 36th minute.
Jorrel Hato: 4/10 – Hato concentrated largely on limiting Mohammed Kudus’ influence, offering little attacking support before being replaced in the second half.
Cole Palmer: 4/10 – Palmer showed flashes of attacking quality and contributed to Chelsea’s pressing, but his evening unravelled after a confrontation and a subsequent late challenge brought his first senior red card.
Geovany Quenda: 6/10 – Making his first Chelsea start, Quenda won an early free-kick but struggled to create meaningful opportunities and was substituted after an unremarkable attacking display.
Morgan Rogers: 6/10 – Rogers combined promisingly with Palmer and tested Antonin Kinsky, although playing as the central striker appeared to limit his effectiveness in the final third.
Chelsea Substitutes
Marco Palestra: 5/10 – Introduced for Hato, Palestra brought physicality to the contest and competed well during his time on the pitch.
Estêvão Willian: 5/10 – The Brazilian made an immediate attacking contribution, firing into the side-netting shortly after entering the game, but could not change the outcome.
