China warns of response if US expands Iran sanctions – FT

China has warned the United States it could retaliate if Washington expands sanctions linked to Iran to more Chinese companies, according to a report by the Iran int’l.

The warning followed new US measures targeting firms in Hong Kong and mainland China, though major Chinese financial institutions were spared. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said Beijing would take “all necessary measures” to safeguard its interests, while reiterating opposition to unilateral sanctions lacking UN backing.

China called for de-escalation and renewed talks. The dispute adds tension ahead of a planned Trump-Xi meeting in Washington next month, the FT said.
