Civil servants give FG ultimatum, threaten strike from October 2 over fuel price

The Joint Public Service Negotiating Council has threatened a three-day warning strike from October 2 if the Federal Government fails to address demands on fuel prices, wage awards and minimum wage negotiations by September 30.

According to Tribune Online, the council’s National Secretary, Olowoyo Gbenga, said the issues were critical to workers’ welfare and purchasing power.

The council demanded that petrol prices be reduced to N500 per litre and proposed an intervention fund to address landing costs and support oil and gas operators.

“The current price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) being sold at N1,450, N2,000 and N2,500 in many places outside major communities and cities is unacceptable,” the council said.

It also demanded payment of a wage award and the constitution of a tripartite committee for the 2027 minimum wage negotiations.

The council warned that if the government fails to respond by September 30, “the Nigerian workers will not hesitate to go on three-day warning strike” from October 2.
