Corinthians part ways with Memphis Depay as financial pressure mounts
Memphis Depay has left Corinthians with immediate effect after the Brazilian club decided against extending his contract, according to GOAL. Corinthians said financial sustainability was the main reason behind the decision, despite previous expectations that the Netherlands international would remain. Depay had reportedly been involved in disagreements with Corinthians over delayed payments, while negotiations over a new deal continued.
The club said taking on another contract of similar financial value would not be compatible with its current and future obligations. Corinthians thanked Depay and his representatives for their efforts during negotiations. The 32-year-old’s next destination remains uncertain, with the club expected to provide further clarification at a press conference.
