Coup suspect reveals how he was allegedly recruited to find financiers
Retired naval captain Erasmus Victor has told investigators he was asked to recruit wealthy financiers for an alleged 2025 plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
According to Premium Times, Victor said suspected mastermind Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji sought about N2 billion and suggested influential potential sponsors, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Victor insisted he never approached Wike or anyone else for funding and repeatedly discouraged Ma’aji.
He admitted knowing about the alleged conspiracy but failing to alert security agencies. Victor and other defendants have pleaded not guilty to charges arising from the alleged plot.
