Nollywood actor Emeka Ike loses N10bn privacy lawsuit against Wike’s aide, INEC
The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a N10 billion fundamental rights lawsuit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, spokesperson for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to Premium Times, Justice Salim Ibrahim delivered the judgment on Wednesday, ruling that the suit was improperly constituted and lacked sufficient evidence.
Ike had accused Olayinka of violating his privacy by publishing his voter registration details on social media following his unsuccessful bid for a House of Representatives ticket.
The actor demanded N10 billion in damages, alleging that the publication breached his constitutional rights and data protection laws.
He also sought an apology and the removal of the publication.
However, INEC maintained that the information was publicly accessible under electoral laws.
Olayinka similarly denied wrongdoing, arguing that the published details were already available to the public.
The court upheld the respondents’ preliminary objections and dismissed the suit.
