Cristiano Ronaldo endures frustrating night as Portugal edge Wales
Cristiano Ronaldo endured a frustrating return to Lisbon as Portugal defeated Wales 1-0, with the veteran forward missing a major chance and having a goal ruled out. According to the Daily Mail, Ronaldo failed to convert a Ruben Neves cross early in the second half before finding the net in the 58th minute.
However, VAR ruled the effort out for offside after he had moved beyond the last defender too early. The 41-year-old was substituted in the 67th minute to a standing ovation, with manager Jorge Jesus explaining that he needed a fresh attacker to lead Portugal’s pressing.
