Crystal Palace forced to settle for 2-2 draw against 10-man Besiktas
Crystal Palace were unable to capitalise on a numerical advantage late on as they were held to a 2-2 Europa League draw by 10-man Besiktas in Istanbul, according to TSN.
Looking to respond to Sunday’s heavy defeat at Brighton, Palace started strongly but fell behind in first-half stoppage time when Wilfred Ndidi slotted home Yasin Ozcan’s long pass.
The Eagles rallied swiftly after the break, equalising six minutes into the second half through Yéremy Pino following a VAR review.
Four minutes later, Jean-Philippe Mateta—making his first start since August—pounced on a defensive blunder to blast Palace ahead. However, Junior Olaitan leveled for the hosts in the 73rd minute.
Besiktas were reduced to 10 men when Umit Akdag was sent off in the 77th minute for a challenge that forced Jorgen Strand Larsen off injured, but Palace could not find a late winner.
