Dangote eyes pristine coast for new refinery hub
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote is moving forward with plans to build a massive energy hub along Africa’s pristine shoreline. According to a report by Wall Street Journal, Africa’s richest man aims to transform the coastal site into a major refining and logistics installation designed to meet rising fuel demands.
The ambitious project, however, has drawn pushback over potential environmental impacts and ongoing local land rights concerns. In response to regional challenges, Dangote remains focused on strengthening continental energy independence and eliminating reliance on imported refined products.
“By 2030, the majority of African countries will be self-sufficient. It does not matter where it is refined, but it should be in the African continent, on the soil of Africa,” Dangote declared. Construction work is expected to commence following regulatory clearance.
