Debt controversy: Peter Obi’s ex-SSG releases 2014 handover document

Former Anambra State Government Secretary Oseloka Obaze has released a 2014 handover document supporting Peter Obi’s claim that his administration left substantial assets when he exited office.

According to Premium Times, Obaze said he witnessed Obi hand the document, with certified bank statements, to incoming governor Willie Obiano on March 17, 2014.

The document listed N91.67 billion in assets and balances, with N5 billion earmarked for salaries, pensions, gratuities and completed projects, leaving N86.67 billion.

However, Obiano’s acknowledgement did not automatically confirm the funds were available because both administrations did not jointly verify the records.

The controversy follows Anambra government claims that Obi’s administration incurred external loans, which it says are still being repaid by the current administration.
