Deco explains why Barcelona chose Anthony Gordon over Marcus Rashford

Barcelona sporting director Deco has explained why the Spanish champions opted to sign Anthony Gordon instead of making Marcus Rashford’s loan move permanent. According to GOAL.com, Rashford scored 14 goals during his loan spell at Camp Nou and helped Barcelona win LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup. However, the club decided against activating his £26m purchase option before spending £59m on Gordon from Newcastle.

Deco said Barcelona were grateful for Rashford’s contribution but believed Gordon better matched Hansi Flick’s tactical demands. He highlighted the need for greater intensity and energy after Barcelona struggled to maintain their spark in matches without Raphinha. Gordon has since made an impressive start, providing five assists in his first five appearances despite not yet scoring.
