DSS witness alleges El-Rufai, associates earmarked $600,000 for EFCC officials
A State Security Service forensic investigator, Segun Kayode, has alleged that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and associates earmarked $600,000 for Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officials and intermediaries.
According to The PUNCH, Kayode made the allegation while testifying before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court in Kawo on Tuesday.
The prosecution witness said forensic audio recordings captured conversations allegedly involving El-Rufai and associates about efforts to frustrate an EFCC investigation into a company identified as Singularity.
Kayode alleged that $500,000 and $100,000 were set aside for payments and named AU Mustapha, SAN; Jimi Lawal; and Bashir El-Rufai among those mentioned in the recordings.
El-Rufai’s lawyer, Paul Erokoro, SAN, objected to the testimony, arguing that Kayode was not listed in the prosecution’s proof of evidence.
ICPC counsel Ayodeji Adedipe, SAN, countered that Kayode was a subpoenaed witness and could testify.
The allegations have not been established by the court.
