D’Tigress suffer worst-ever World Cup campaign with three defeats
Nigeria’s D’Tigress ended their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign without a win after suffering a 111-56 defeat to France in their final Group B game in Berlin on Monday, according to a report by Vanguard.
France dominated from the opening quarter, racing to a 31-13 lead before extending it to 65-26 by halftime, and continued to pull away in the third quarter to lead 95-36 before Nigeria improved in the final period.
The defeat was D’Tigress’ third straight loss in the group stage, following earlier defeats to South Korea and Hungary, leaving Nigeria bottom of the group and out of the competition, Vanguard reported.
Efosa-Aguebo led Nigeria with 15 points off the bench, while Balogun added 11, according to the report. D’Tigress had entered the tournament as five-time reigning African champions and quarter-finalists at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
