Ebola: Lab scientists urge APC, ADC, NDC, others to campaign virtually
The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria has advised political parties, including the APC, ADC and NDC, to conduct virtual campaigns following the confirmation of an Ebola case in Abuja.
According to Peoples Gazette, the association’s Kaduna State chairman, Turman Benjamin, made the recommendation during an interview on Thursday.
Benjamin urged political parties to adopt social media, telephone calls, text messages, Zoom and Google Meet instead of physical rallies to minimise potential exposure.
He also called on the Kaduna State government to intensify public awareness, strengthen contact tracing and provide adequate protective equipment for healthcare workers.
The chairman advised residents to avoid unnecessary physical contact, including handshakes and hugs, while maintaining proper hygiene.
He explained that Ebola spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids and stressed the importance of laboratory testing for accurate diagnosis.
The federal government has confirmed one Ebola case in Abuja, with 44 close contacts identified for monitoring.
The infected woman remains isolated and is receiving medical treatment.
